چکیده
Edi tor ’s Note : NEHA strives to provide up-to-date and relevant information on environmental health and to build partnerships in the profession. In pursuit of these goals, we feature a column from the Environmental Health Services Branch (EHSB) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in every issue of the Journal. In this column, EHSB and guest authors from across CDC will highlight a variety of concerns, opportunities, challenges, and successes that we all share in environmental public health. EHSB’s objective is to strengthen the role of state, local, tribal, and national environmental health programs and professionals to anticipate, identify, and respond to adverse environmental exposures and the consequences of these exposures for human health. The conclusions in this article are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the views of CDC. Mansoor Baloch is a consultant hydrologist/environmental engineer with the Environmental Health Specialists Network (EHS-Net) Water Program at EHSB. He has more than 10 years of research and program experience in water resources management, water quality, and environmental engineering.

Vulnerability Assessments of Pesticide Leaching to Groundwater
Stenemo, F., 2007. Vulnerability assessments of pesticide leaching to groundwater. Doctoral thesis. ISSN 1652-6880, ISBN 978-91-576-7356-5. Pesticides may have adverse environmental effects if they are transported to groundwater and surface waters. The vulnerability of water resources to contamination of pesticides must therefore be evaluated. Different stakeholders, with different objectives a...
متن کاملEvaluation of Groundwater Vulnerability Using Data Mining Technique in Hashtgerd Plain
Groundwater vulnerability assessment would be one of the effective informative methods to provide a basis for determining source of pollution. Vulnerability maps are employed as an important solution in order to handle entrance of pollution into the aquifers. A common way to develop groundwater vulnerability map is DRASTIC. Meanwhile, application of the method is not easy for any aquifer due to...

متن کاملAssessment of Saltwater Pollution in Azarshahr Plain Groundwater, Iran: Conjugating GALDIT Method and Geostatistics
Overutilization of groundwater resources can put their quality under stress. It could be base on rapid declination in groundwater level leading to salt water intrusion in the coastal aquifers. The objective of this study was to map the vulnerability of salt water intrusion of the Urmia Lake, Iran to nearby coastal aquifer (Azarshahr) using GALDIT method. The GALDIT index based on six parameters...
متن کاملLow-Level Detections of Halogenated Volatile Organic Compounds in Groundwater: Use in Vulnerability Assessments
Concentrations of halogenated volatile organic compounds VOCs were determined by gas chromatography GC with an electron-capture detector GC-ECD and by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry GC-MS in 109 groundwater samples from five study areas in the United States. In each case, the untreated water sample was used for drinking-water purposes or was from a monitoring well in an area near a d...
